Announcing a $200k Grant from The Pinkerton Foundation!!!

The B.R.O. Experience is honored and overjoyed to announce a grant of $200,000 from The Pinkerton Foundation, one of New York City’s most established and respected youth-focused charitable foundations.

This new grant will support two of our core programs in 2023: BRO X Rites of Passage and Little BRO Summer Camp. Rites of Passage is our four-year transformational curriculum that currently serves 9th and 10th graders at Frederick Douglass Academy in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Little BRO Summer Camp is our free 6-week day camp for 3rd and 4th-grade boys, providing fun activities in literacy, science, arts, and culture. After a successful pilot in 2019, we’re thrilled to bring back the camp in 2023.

The Pinkerton Foundation, founded in 1966, “supports community-based programs for children, youth, and families in economically disadvantaged areas in New York City.” This marks our first major grant from a foundation since launching B.R.O. in 2020. The support will be combined with generous contributions from individual community donors, CapitalOne Bank, elected officials including Stefanie Zinerman, Jabari Brisport, Chi Ossé, Antonio Reynoso, and other forward-looking allies.

B.R.O. Experience Founder and Executive Director Barry Cooper:

“It is an amazing feeling when you can build and connect with an organization who sees the value in nurturing our future. We don't take our mission lightly and can't wait to change the world with Pinkerton.”

It is our great honor to join The Pinkerton Foundation’s network of outstanding grant recipients doing powerful work throughout our city. We look forward to working together to help more young people reach their full potential.
