The BRO Space

The BRO Space is our neighborhood transformational space supporting young men and their families. We believe that carefully curated and intentional physical locations are essential for mentorship and fostering the art of self.

Behind the Bars

Behind the Bars is a unique music-centered cognitive-behavioral group curriculum for middle and high schoolers. Held at The BRO Space as well as off-site and popup locations, each session uses lyrics from popular music and poetry as catalysts for personal exploration and growth. Through facilitated workshops, group discussion, text analysis, journaling, and poetry, participants explore themes including mental health, violence, gender norms, societal inequity, peer pressure, and financial literacy in a mindful, mediated format.

Workshops and Special Events

The BRO Space is the site of frequent gatherings that bring the community together in a range of ways. Our recent Men to Health event brought together musicians, poets, and wellness service providers to celebrate Black men’s mental health and offer resources and support. See what it looked like.

Partnership-based programs:

Hero Dads, a partnership with Montefiore Hospital, is a four-week program for fathers with non-custodial children. Through weekly workshops (facilitated by The B.R.O. Experience and hosted at The BRO Space) dads learn relationship and parenting skills that strengthen bonds with their kids and co-parent.

– A partnership with the Hunter College School of Social Work provides a team of Licensed Clinical Social Workers who are available to support B.R.O. Experience participants.

Soul BRO is a partnership between The B.R.O. Experience and The Wellness and Community Advocacy Internship Program (launched by Bridge Street Development Corporation, the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office, and Columbia University) which supports young men from surrounding communities through B.R.O. Experience internships and self-development workshops.

– In collaboration with My Brother’s Keeper/The Obama Foundation and the Superintendent of District 16 Middle School, The B.R.O. Experience is producing and hosting the I Hear You, BRO summit this summer at The B.R.O. Space.

– In partnership with the local NYPD precinct, The B.R.O. Experience has facilitated implicit bias workshops that bring together young men and police officers in constructive dialog at The BRO Space.

I HEAR YOU B.R.O. FULL DAY RETREAT

"I HEAR U Bro Wellness Empowerment Retreat," a transformative full-day experiential event designed specifically for high school-age young men. At the Bro Experience Foundation, we focus on fostering personal growth and genuine connections through a unique blend of critical consciousness and cognitive behavior therapy. Our approach encourages participants to explore their identities, understand social dynamics, and navigate emotional challenges with resilience.

Throughout the retreat, young men will engage in interactive workshops, guided discussions, and team-building activities that promote self-awareness and empower them to express their thoughts and feelings openly. By addressing real-life issues and cultivating a supportive community, we inspire participants to challenge societal norms and develop healthier coping strategies.

Empower yourself and your peers to embrace vulnerability, build lasting friendships, and unlock your full potential at the "I HEAR U Bro" retreat, where growth and connection go hand in hand. Join us in creating a future of confident, compassionate leaders!
