HUG THE BRO SPACE WELLNESS CENTER
Donate to help create a world without judgement for black men
How can you Hug the BRO Space?
Hugging the BRO Space means joining your fellow New Yorkers to support a community that matters. Supporting, donating, and spreading the work is not unlike a group hug, where everyone is supported and everyone rises together. The BRO Experience works with young boys and men, ages 8 and up, during the most vulnerable and important times of their lives. When you Hug the BRO Space, you contribute to making a safe space for these young men of color.
What does it mean to Hug the BRO Space?
Hugging the space can be done in many ways, such as attending events, sharing posts on social media, and letting people who might benefit know about our work. But the biggest way that you can make an impact is by becoming a 100 Strong recurring donor. Being a part of the 100 Strong means giving a recurring donation that allows us to continue to keep the space alive and lets us grow to help even more people in need. The Space isn’t just an idea, it’s a real place in the heart of Brooklyn where young men find a haven to rest and connect. The Space headquarters offers an array of programs and events such as film screenings and discussions, fatherhood mentorship, youth summer camps, and more. Join us for an event and experience it yourself.
Why is it important?
Hugging the BRO Space isn’t only about supporting young men of color, it’s about uplifting the community. When young men are healthy, happy, and vulnerable, we all benefit. Your donation doesn’t just contribute to the betterment of young men’s lives, but the contributions that those men will be able to give back to their communities. Join the family in linking arms around the spaces that matter most.
A Journey of Transformation
The Daily Pilgrimage
As a young father, I found myself without bus fare to take my daughter to her babysitter in the Fort Greene housing developments. Each morning, I would rise with the sun and push her stroller through the streets of Bedford-Stuyvesant, our footsteps marking a daily pilgrimage of hope and necessity. Every block traversed revealed the contrasting landscapes of our Brooklyn communities.
From Survival to Vibrance
The journey carried us through crumbling buildings and vacant lots of my neighborhood through the historic brownstones of Clinton Hill and into the energetic pulse of Downtown Brooklyn. Although the path, I yearned for a sanctuary where I could voice my deepest thoughts and vulnerabilities. I held tight to the belief that my personal growth could mirror the visible transformation of these neighborhoods - that with persistence, I too could evolve from survival to vibrancy.
Walking as Therapy
Those morning walks with my daughter became my most profound therapy. In moments of doubt, this ritual offered clarity and perspective, healing me one city block at a time.
Perseverance
I continued walking until circumstances changed and the necessity faded. Yet the essence of the journey remains embedded in my spirit - no matter what obstacles arise, I press forward with unwavering determination.
Finding Your Space
When self-doubt clouds your worth or strength seems distant, remember to keep moving. Walk until you discover that sacred space where your presence is acknowledged and your voice resonates with others.
