Honoring Dr. Chris Emdin, Extraordinary Educator

Today we spotlight Chris Emdin, one of our distinguished honorees in the Extraordinary Men Awards on Dec 5th. Dr. Emdin is on a tireless mission to make education relevant, just, and liberatory for students of color. He currently serves on the faculty of Columbia University’s Teachers College and holds a Ph.D in Urban Education with a concentration in Mathematics, Science, and Technology.

His amazing books include Ratchetdemic: Reimagining Academic Success, For White Folks Who Teach in the Hood... and the Rest of Y'all Too, and Urban Science Education for the Hip-Hop Generation.

Emdin has been a pioneer in the use of hip hop in the classroom. See him on PBS News rapping his commentary on why there aren’t more Black male teachers.
