Behind the Bars

Behind the Bars is a unique music-centered cognitive-behavioral group curriculum for middle and high schoolers. Held at The BRO Space as well as off-site and popup locations, each session uses lyrics from popular music and poetry as catalysts for personal exploration and growth.

Through facilitated workshops, group discussion, text analysis, journaling, and poetry, participants explore themes including mental health, violence, gender norms, societal inequity, peer pressure, and financial literacy in a mindful, mediated format.

Behind the Bars is currently running at Boys & Girls Academy in East New York

This is a journey of black men healing!

for black boys

An epiphany for a black boy is the realization that his inherent worth and potential is not determined by society's limited expectations, but by the boundless possibilities within himself. In this book, you get to experience the journey of young black brothers who put in the work to shift their perspectives. It is evident that when given the time and space to simply be, our young men can create and connect on new levels. It is through this journey that they unveil a higher version of themselves and exemplify the true definition of Brothers Redefining Opportunity.
